What to watch

Now visualizing

Observed velocity equals object velocity minus reference-frame velocity. An object can be at rest in one frame and moving in another.

Set the train to 8 m/s and passenger to 2 m/s. Compare platform and train frames.
Make the passenger walk backward until the platform velocity becomes zero.
Use opposite-moving trains and observe why relative speed exceeds either individual speed.
